Born on March, 20, 1970 (Cesena, Italy).

1988 Apr-May: Ranks in the top fifteen in a national competition for high-school students to select the Italian team for the ''Mathematics Olympic Games" and in the top ten in the selection for the ''Physics Olympic Games''.
1988 Oct: Ranks first in the national selection for the admission to the "Scuola Normale Superiore" in Pisa.
1988 Nov -1993 Jul: Undergraduate student at the Scuola Normale and Pisa U. where he receives the Bachelor (Laurea) degree in Physics.
1993 Nov - 1996 Nov: Graduate Student in Physics at the U. of Bologna; Ph. D thesis under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Morandi on quantum magnetic phases in strongly-correlated systems.
1995 Oct - 1996 March: Six-months visit at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Fribourg U. (Switzerland) in the group of Dyonis Baeriswyl, working on ferromagnetism in low dimensional sytems.

Research Activity:
He has started his research activity by studying the problem of quark confinement in lattice Quantum Chromodynamics; his research interests then shifted on condensed matter physics, focusing initially on strongly-correlated magnetic systems and then on superconductivity and superfluidity. His current research activity focuses on the BCS-BEC crossover and related problems in ultracold Fermi atoms, and on the properties of strongly-interacting Bose-Fermi mixtures.
