1988 AprMay: Ranks in the top fifteen in a national competition for highschool students to select the Italian team for the ''Mathematics Olympic Games" and in the top ten in the selection for the ''Physics Olympic Games''.
1988 Oct: Ranks first in the national selection for the admission to the "Scuola Normale Superiore" in Pisa.
1988 Nov 1993 Jul: Undergraduate student at the Scuola Normale and Pisa U. where he receives the Bachelor (Laurea) degree in Physics.
1993 Nov  1996 Nov: Graduate Student in Physics at the U. of Bologna; Ph. D thesis under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Morandi on quantum magnetic phases in stronglycorrelated systems.
1995 Oct  1996 March: Sixmonths visit at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Fribourg U. (Switzerland) in the group of Dyonis Baeriswyl, working on ferromagnetism in low dimensional sytems.

Research Activity:
He has started his research activity by studying the problem of quark confinement in lattice Quantum Chromodynamics; his research interests then shifted on condensed matter physics, focusing initially on stronglycorrelated magnetic systems and then on superconductivity and superfluidity. His current research activity focuses on the BCSBEC crossover and related problems in ultracold Fermi atoms, and on the properties of stronglyinteracting BoseFermi mixtures.
